One of the most common things I hear in consultation is: “I love my children, but I don’t recognize my body anymore.” If that sentence feels familiar, you are not alone — and there is nothing vain about wanting to feel like yourself again.
What a Mommy Makeover Actually Is
A mommy makeover is not a single operation — it is a personalized combination of procedures designed to address the changes that pregnancy and breastfeeding leave behind. Every woman’s body responds to pregnancy differently, so no two plans I create are exactly alike.
The goal is not to make you look like someone else. It is to restore what feels like your body — firmer contours, a flatter abdomen, and breasts that sit where they used to. When I plan a makeover, I always start by listening to what bothers you, not by handing you a fixed package.
The Procedures I Combine Most Often
Depending on your priorities and anatomy, a mommy makeover may include one or several of the following:
- Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty): to tighten stretched abdominal muscles and remove loose skin after pregnancy.
- Breast lift or augmentation: to restore volume and position that often change after nursing.
- Liposuction: to refine stubborn areas like the flanks, hips or lower back that diet alone rarely resolves.
- Skin and scar care: the finishing details that help results look natural and well-healed.
In many cases we can combine several of these in a single surgery, which means one recovery period instead of several. Whether that is right for you is something we decide together, based on your health and your goals.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
A mommy makeover tends to work best when a few things are in place. In my consultations, I look for patients who:
- Are finished having children, or are comfortable that a future pregnancy could affect results.
- Are at or near a stable, healthy weight.
- Are in good general health and don’t smoke (or are willing to pause well before surgery).
- Have realistic, clearly-stated goals — improvement, not perfection.
If you are still breastfeeding or planning another pregnancy soon, that is completely fine — it usually just means the timing isn’t quite right yet, and I’ll tell you so honestly.
Recovery and What to Expect
Recovery is the part patients ask me about most, and my answer is always the same: give yourself grace and give yourself time. Most women take the first one to two weeks to rest, with help at home for lifting and childcare. Compression garments, gentle movement and follow-up visits all support smoother healing.
Results continue to settle over the following weeks and months as swelling resolves. What I want every patient to understand is that this is a journey we take together — from the first consultation through every post-op check — and your safety always comes before any aesthetic goal.
If you have been quietly wondering whether this is for you, the best next step is simply a conversation. We can look at your history, your goals and your options with no pressure at all.
